I haven't heard of propagating lillies from cuttings, only from dividing bulbs.

Lillies are a bulb like spring flowers but often larger. They spread by making more bulbs around the roots. Best to wait until they die back in fall to harvest a few. Then transplant to new home at same time.

I really believe that the lilies will die off before any roots will form. There are more bulbs in the ground than just the one or so flowers you see. These bulbs will continue to make new ones for several years, so best to just dig up the bulbs, take off the babies and start moving them around.
