Hi Shelley, I would contact either your local nurseries or most states have conservation offices that could really help. They'll be able to tell you the native plants that will flourish.
In one area of my yard, I've let the common violets take over. I have one bed with buttercups, and the front area under the big trees has wood sorrel, and along driveway there are wild strawberries.
