Small porch, no shade available, what can i do for shade to sit morning and evening.
Dear Linda, Buy a small A/C, they don't cost that much. If your apartment is small, you'll need less BTUs. Check them out in advertisements in the newspaper, or go to Home Depot, and see what they have.
You can add one of those bamboo blind shades they sell for porchs to give you some shade.... Walmart has lots on their website... https://www.walmart.com/search/?query=bamboo%20shades%20for%20outside&cat_id=0 then they usually sell them in garden centers too cause lots of people use them on their porch.
For the apartment you can add one-way window film that is UV/heat resistant.... https://www.amazon.com/RABBITGOO-Removable-Decorative-Windows(17-4-,Sliver)/dp/B07BMLCWR8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1531411296&sr=8-4&keywords=one+way+window+film+anti+uv you can see out
Then I would add a window fan that will both blow cool air in at night and early morning, and then you flip the switch to blow hot air out during the day... https://www.walmart.com/ip/Holmes-HAWF2021-WMUM-Dual-Blade-Twin-Window-Fan/17133777 you could also get an apartment air conditioner... https://www.walmart.com/search/?query=apartment%20air%20conditioner&cat_id=0 they make portable ones now, check out the top left one on the page... its a portable.
Switching out your ceiling light for a ceiling fan helps cool you also... you can always remove it when you move, and take it with you. Save the old one in a box in your closet.
Then you can make your own swamp cooler.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITtlxjvLQis
Hi Linda have you considered a big umbrella, they make them free standing now or, if you have room for a table, they also make tables with umbrellas built right in.
Why not put in a portable a/c which you can move around to cool different areas?
