Does Playdough dry out if used in crafts?
Going to make a quart size jar with birds sitting on a branch, with the branch stuck in Playdough and covered with fake grass. Will the Playdough dry hard and hold the branch or will it crack and let the branch fall?

Yes, I don't know of a way to prevent it. But it holds its color. I used to make flowers and stuff into lapel pins. They never faded.
it will not hold long term
Hi Roe, It won't hold up for long, it will get hard, and maybe break off.
Play dough will eventually crack and give way. You might want to use modeling clay made for just such projects as you mentioned, Tom. It comes in many colors too. I order mine online or get it at the craft department in local stores like Walmart.
Try air dry clay. You can color it with a drop of food color
