My roof leaks! Help!

I am a 75-year-old disabled veteran and I cannot climb up there any more. Has anyone ever used a farm tarp as a roof? How did you secure it against the wind? What about the roof vents? I would love to have a metal roof, but I can't afford it.

I never had to do this, however I am pretty positive there are federal aid programs for things like this. I did a little search and came up with this website. Take a look at them, if it is not for you, head over to google and search federal aid for roof replacements. Good Luck!

That would be temporary and you probably can’t secure it. Call the local va office they may can get someone to help u. Thanks for your service. God bless America.

Please contact various volunteer groups in your area for help! Home Depot has a foundation and also sends out volunteers. I'd think the VA support groups could help you also.

Tarps aren't a solution because even if you could secure it enough to stop your leak, the tarp will trap moisture against the other parts of your roof and hold it in, potentially causing more damage.

  • Yes I would advise against that is that's only a short-term very temporary fix and he don't want it blowing off in the middle of a terrible storm

Some local roofers are willing to put a roof if you can get the materials. One around us has done it for free materials included. Habitat for Humanity has programs to fix house stuff for older folks. I am 60 and still working but at the rate I am going I will and can now use help. Hope that helps. Contact Habitat for Humanity!

I meant to include helping vets. Also I would ask at your local veterans office. If we all lived a little bit more communicably younger people should help and fix older folks homes that need help. I have worked my whole life and will be unable to retire. People should not be alone we all need a hand now and again.

Last year, my home suffered a very bad hail storm that made my roof leak but I couldn’t find the leak source. Then, I hired a professional roofer. Unfortunately, he also couldn’t find it. I was very worried. Then, my friend suggested to me that I coat my entire roof with DIY EPDM liquid butyl rubber and thanks to this amazing product my roof’s leak issue was resolved with just a single coating. Liquid EPDM is an ASTM certified product that can withstand ponding water 365 days a year making the roof waterproof in heavy rainfall and hailstorms. I advise you to use it as it is the best, cost effective solution for roof leaks and gives a better alternative to costly roof replacements.
