How to reclaim an overgrown back yard?
I have a large portion of a back yard that was left to grow wild by the previous homeowners that I would like to reclaim as lawn. What is the easiest process for getting all of the underbrush out and start the process of reseeding a lawn that will not be a huge investment money wise. There are also grape vines that are running rampant.

We had the same situation in our current house, and while I am not an avid gardener, my advice is to section it out and work on one section at a time, or it can feel very overwhelming. Plan out ahead of time what your ultimate goal will be (where do you want to just have grass, where do you want beds, etc). Then, just work in sections or on one project at a time. Also, realize it can take more than one season/year to get your yard where you want it. Landscape fabric is great for areas where you want beds and want to really curb weeds regrowing.
Whack it down, use brush killer, till, plant. We whacked and killed in spring. Tilled late summer and planted around Labor Day. We’ve got the prettiest backyard in the neighborhood!
We cleared an area like this years ago, and found tulips, daffodils, and iris beneath all of the overgrowth. Clear carefully and you may find some hidden gems that you can transplant to other areas.
