Pressure wash if you can afford to, if not, use your hose full pressure. Let dry 100%. For painting, be SURE to prime the wood first, * color primer same as chosen for deck color.. Let dry. Ask pro at Lowes about which paint is best for your deck. Purchase paint!
*Tip.. lay plastic for example on ground, around deck to collect droppings of old paint, etc.
*plastic sheeting in paint dept, cheap!
