What is best brand of shingles to replace mobile home roof?
Just found out I need a new roof. Black mold showed up on ceiling recently. Plywood may be rotted. Mobile home was $38,000, a 2004 Fairmont , excellent condition, I am 67 yr old female, disabled. I do not need a 25 yr shingle. Is there a more economical shingle available? What thickness plywood do I need. Home is 80 x 16, Thank you for taking my question.

I thought Mobil homes had flat roofs. If it does, you wouldn't shingle it.
before you look for new shingles, you may want to see WHY you need them. Mold is not likely to be needed unless there is more severe problems. I would invest in a house inspector first to determine what is going on. better to spend a $100 now for the best plan of attack and then repair it.
Naomie Moore's comment.
Did you receive a home warranty package when you purchased you home? If so, use it. What did the inspection report say prior to purchase? Anything disclosed there? What was discovered? I would also go after the previous owners and their realtor. $8,000 sounds a bit steep for a mobile home roof. Granted you get snow, but that still seems excessive. Keep us posted, we can help you through this. I hate to see people being taken advantage of in situations like this.
I agree with Naomie's suggestion. Did you have a Home Inspection. You could go after the inspector, your realtor, sellers realtor, or sellers. Read your home inspection report if you had one.. A lot of inspectors have a limit on liability. If you have homeowners insurance you can consult them. There are also organizations, including your state, county that assist seniors. in these situations. You can also approach Habitat for Humanity for assistance.
sorry to hear about your purchase. Always have a inspector check things out like a house before you buy it or make an offer. Just to let you know, a 20 year roof shingle really wont last that long. this is just an estimate that the vendors say it might last. It is like buying tires with a 60K warranty. the longer you own it the less the warranty is worth. Don't mobile homes have an original metal roof? Would it be better to rip off the rafters and start from teh metal again? Just asking...best of luck with this.
