Summer Wreath

I had an old wreath that needed a little love. Rather than just fluff it up or add new flowers, I decided to give it some summertime flair with a few wooden letters to celebrate the season.

This was the sad and sorry before. I'd had this wreath for a long, long time and besides being super dusty, it was also a bit bedraggled.

Now if you've never made a wreath before, refreshing an old one is a great way to build your crafty confidence. The basis of the project is already there for you!

Once you're comfortable with your new wreath building skills you'll see how easy it is to make one from scratch. You can start with an easy one like a dollar store daisy wreath - just one bloom, but absolutely stunning.

The number one tool for wreath making ~ or remaking ~ is a glue gun. I started by reinforcing the bonds between the flowers and wreath base first. Some of them were very loose.

Next, it was time to add that flair.

Now normally, I'm all about simple wreaths. My red hydrangea wreath is a knockout with only one bloom, but for this project, I wanted to add a little summer whimsy.

So I added wooden letters and a bright yellow bow. I painted the letters magenta with craft paint and added a bit of glitter for sparkle. To make the bow, I used my Bowdabra Bow Maker. Best tool ever...

Here's a quick tip...I alway try to work vertically with my wreaths, so I can see how they'll look hanging up. Perspective helps...a lot!!

When all was said and done, for a few pennies worth of letters and about 30 minutes of my time, I had a fabulous new wreath ready to welcome my new guests and the new season!
