The rock😔
How do I landscape around rocks?
We want to landscape in front of our porch, but there is a huge rock in the way! What plants might do well? What other options do I have? I was hoping for something green year round and maybe blooms in the spring/summer. Thanks!

Creeping phlox and creeping thyme are good, low growing ground covers that do well in poor conditions. Each have a flower in the spring and have evergreenish type leaves in the balance of the year.
Connie, where do you live? I don't want to give you ideas if the plants wouldn't do well because of your climate. There are many different kinds of ground cover, that are short and some bloom in Spring and Summer. If you could get back with me on where you live then we could go from there.
Your local nursery would have some great suggestions for you. Low level grasses or evergreen ground covers would be pretty with groupings of flowering plants. I think that rock is great; highlighting it and incorporating it will make it seem less of a sore thumb.
Dig out those weeds and grass figure out what kind of depth you actually have. I would set a bird bath on that rock and plant something kind of tall around it. I don't know what part of the country you live in but I would do a butterfly type garden.
Sedum, creeping thyme, a white clover (it spreads rapidly.) Here are more ideas.

How thick/deep is the rock? With a mini-track loader, or small bobcat, you can remove/move it elsewhere in the yard.
Connie, maybe you could build a narrow rock garden between the rock and your porch. Any of the plants mentioned above would work in a rock garden. The flowering ground covers work well, and maybe you could add some succulents. Good luck.
