How do you make your own peat pods for an Aero grow?
I have an Aero grow garden that uses cigar shaped peat pods to start seeds in. I was wondering if anyone knows how to their own pods?
Depends on where you live; they do not transplant well, so wait until the soil is reliably warm (70F) before setting seeds; you can 'pre-warm' the soil by applying black plastic over the planting area ( will also reduce early sprouting weeds). Melon seeds are planted about 1" deep and you will want to have LOTS of room for them -- also do best if planted on a 'MOUND' of soil so it drains well; they take a LOT of water, but don't like 'wet' feet. Plant 4 seeds to a mound, then as they begin to grow, cut the three smallest ones at ground level so the 'largest' one will be left.
The male flowers come first, followed by the the female flowers; Honeybees are the only natural pollinator for Watermelons .. not sure about other variety -- but please don't use any pesticides that would kill the pollinators.

Hello, I always plant mine at the beginning of the season about the beginning of June and I make a mound of dirt and put a couple of seeds in each one.
