Inground or above ground for 50+ gallon fish pond container?

I plan to get me a black rubbermaid container for my goldfish. I was planning to have it above the ground but i was told that water will be frozen during bad winter storm. I am from metro atlanta area, ga.

Hi Vicki, below ground it will definitely be less likely to freeze if you see really cold temperatures. Another way to keep it from freezing is to put in a pump that will keep the water moving. (or even a solar polar fountain would help too)
Hi Vicki. Below ground would be the best. You can then plant flowers, and add stones around it. It will also help keep them cooler in summer. If you are worrying about it freezing you could invest in a pond deicer. It would keep an area unfrozen. You want to make sure you keep a hole in the ice. Otherwise any matter that is in the pond and is decomposing causes a gas that can kill the fish. Good luck!
