Anytime you are stripping paint off old pieces there is a possibility that someone used lead paint. I would call a local, reputable BODY SHOP. They should be able to tell you how and also give you a quote as they would use respirators when removing the old paint and be able to dispose of it properly.
Other articles I have read say to slow cook them in an old pan but again, you may be dealing with a lead issue. You could do it outside on a grill but then you would REALLY need to dispose of the paint in an approved manner, it is the LAW.
Have you tried boiling them?
Gosh...Peggy....I feel your pain. I'm guessing these are something not replaceable if they are that old. With all the furniture I've stripped, it sounds like you have layers of different types of paint, oil, exterior, primer, acrylic......and you're right. One product won't work on all those years of layers. I think you might try an electric sander. If there are small crevices and carvings, a Dremel should work on that. It will be pain staking work, but worth it when you're done. Best of luck.
You used aircraft stripper ? I had to use that to get 4 layers of paint off my car. Apply aircraft stripper and have to let it soak.
Did you let them soak. I put it on my Triumph and took the paint off with a rubber spatula. I had 4 different colors on my car.
