How to install an awnning and not have to pay thousands to the contra?
The awning was blown off. I purchased another one. now I am told that I have to use a licensed contractor to install the new awning. the contractors charge the same amount as the awning. Is there someway around this?

Don't know who said you need a contractor? No reason why you can't install it yourself. Instructions come with the awning.
What exactly did you purchase? Could be that in order to provide a warranty or guarantee, the item needs to be installed correctly.
If are willing to forgo any warranty, you could install yourself if you know what you are doing.
Are you in a HOA? ( I hate those) . I’d still call around, maybe just a general handyman.
