Kathy, a little water won't hurt the upholstery. I use the suds only from some warm water and Dawn liquid. I gently sponge on some suds, then scrub and wipe off the suds. For really dirty upholstery I can't replace at the time, I use the sudsy water and rub in more. When the furniture is completely dry, I use Scotch Guard to protect it. I hope this helps you. 😊

I have a the Little Green vacuum from Bissell and it works great on small upholstered furniture. It's wet/dry so all the stains come out.
