Have you tried going to the Lane site and maybe emailing them a photo and they might be able to tell when it was made etc. Great cedar chest.
Hello Mar, is there a serial number? According to this this source- that is very valuable information for dating the chest.

Mar,
Here is an interesting article. I believe if you contact the Virginia Historical Society they can help you with this. Not sure if this will help or not.

Found this one on etsy: It looks like yours and the price looks pretty good too!

Chubby hit the nail on the head. The cedar chest on Etsy must have the tag with the serial number still on it to date it, and yours looks just like it. I would have dated it from the 1930's just from the style and carving. Take care of it and don't paint it lol.
I triple the sentiment of not painting your chest. Once you get your info go to a REPUTABLE antique restorer and ask how to restore your finish. Bet it will be BEAUTIFUL when you are done with it.
I googled images of old lane chests, there is one very similar, same handle same feet etc., this piece gave serial number 073130. The serial number reversed is the date of manufacture , March 13 1937, so your chest is probably from the same period. The chest shown was in excellent condition selling for $250.

Interesting fact. Lane chests have a grove in the back of the lid that holds the key.
Based on the design, I would say the chest design dates to the '30s. It's a lovely piece and, as someone already mentioned, I would send a picture to Lane to get more information.
