Wood! Lots of reclaimed wood. Use southwest colors, peach, turquoise, rust.
find a rug, blanket, wall decoration etc, that has the look you love and build around that.
Go to flea markets and start collecting old farm stuff, like wagon wheels, etc. Flea markets in rural areas will have a lot of this stuff. Add in a lot of wood, leather, reds, and blues. Look for western inspired fabrics for pillows or even Navajo prints. A cow hide rug would look cool.
Linda, Think: horses, Holstein cows (black and white spots), horse shoes, embossed leather, weathered fence posts, spurs, chaps, wooden framing or embellishments on furniture, silver bolos, brightly colored striped woven cotton blankets, halters, reins, lassos, hemp rope or cording for embellishments, hats and boots. Incorporate any of these items or themes into your room. If you provide more information on what room and how much impression you want from this theme, let me know and I can offer more detailed suggestions.
I just found cow hide print (cloth) stools on Target.com for UNDER $60 each. Bandana pillows on a denim couch or chair. Leather cowboy hats on a staircase wall. Horse shoe hooks to hang coats or towels. Do one bathroom wall in a horse mural they aren't too expensive. Kitchen in colorful enamelware, they make it in all colors, red white blue green. A big old enamel coffeepot with flowers on the counter. Leather chair with a bright colored serape on it. IKEA has great selection of rugs in beautiful colors and textures in earth tones.
A barbed wire or horse shoe wreath
Metal stars
Wagon wheel hanging light
Saddle shaped footstool
Large diameter rope for trim accent on before mentioned wood
I recommend going to Pinterest or google and searching for western theme decor. You will find loads of inspiration.
