you can get the look with any hardboard or plywood cut in strips, Kelly! Here’s how we did it: https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2018/05/how-to-make-vertical-shiplap-paneling.html

We did it vertically - but horizontal would be very similar. :)

The cheapest is plywood cut into 6” planks. The hardware stores will cut it for you. Find the studs in your wall with a stud finder. Nail the planks into the wall studs. You can either paint the boards before or after you install. If you want the space between the boards use a nickel for the spacing if not just butt them on top of each other. We did our wall & rented a nail gun & had it done in 1/2 day & we cut our own boards.

  • I used underlayment for mine. It costs about $15 a sheet, so it's very affordable. The hardware store will cut it into strips, but they'll only cut it to about 8" or 12" (depending on who is cutting that day.)

In another bathroom, I used v-groove boards. They're much thinner (about 4 1/2").

Both were really easy to install if you have a nail gun (which I highly recommend for this project.)
