What is the difference between chalk paint and regular paint 🎨 ?

  • The finish is different. Chalk paint typically has a matte finish. Regular wall paint is latex based. With chalk paint you usually don't see brush strokes and it has great coverage over old furniture. If you are painting walls, use latex based. If you are painting cabinets or furniture, most people prefer chalk.

Chalk paint is thicker & is good for doing distressing. You will need to seal it after painting. Is a flat sheen.

"Regular" - if you are talking about latex paint - comes in several sheens - flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss & gloss. You do not need to add a seperate sealant.

Then cover the new paint, clear or flat, I have found chalk paint chips very easily. But then again I always make my own.
