Re-do a builder grade European cabinet laminate bathroom vanity? Ugh...short of replacing...
There are so many colorstains to choose from. Make sure to sand, stain and protect the wood. The plank needs to be in the 1 plus inch range.

First you didn't say what your vanity was made off . You can use wood glue or gorilla glue or E600 . They will bond to just about anything . Hope this help.

Might I suggest you consider using Wood look Ceramic Tiles or Vinyl wood Planks rather than Stained wooden planks, because wherever I have seen this arrangement with the Bowl sink sitting on top of the work surface, it has always been swimming in water, not everyone is careful..... If you still want to go with real wood, that you seal it well! ( do be aware any water left on the surface will leave a opaque spot until it thoroughly dries out.
