Rusted iron filings sitting atop an aluminum roof. Must I clean them off to avoid long-term damage?
How do I keep my aluminum roof from rusting?
A contractor put in new windows. He spewed metal grindings all over a corrugated aluminum roof and these filings rusted. Will this affect my aluminum roof if I do nothing or will they need to be cleaned up?

Won't hurt the roof, but will stain and look bad. Call the contractor back and make him clean it up. At least report him to the bbb.
He should have protected the roof. Complain.
I agree. Won't hurt the roof in the short term but call the contractor and have him clean it up or do it yourself. The filings should be removed. A process called "electrolysis" can occur. It's when two different metals come in contact with each other and start a corrosion process. Especially when moisture is introduced. Similar to copper pipes connected directly to iron pipes. All metal parts on a car are grounded to repel positive ions that can cause premature rusting.
I think this is not real aluminium because original aluminium doesn't get rust, how ever if anyone first do coating of red oxide on roof and then after dry do paint on it so that roof will more protected from rust. Just try and get result, I am student of hnd course and some time do marketing hnd assignments topic so that's why I know about many different products and things.
My daughter and a next door neighbor of mine both have metal roofs. Every other
year they have an oil coating applied to their roofs. We live in Silicon Valley and temps. get very hot and quite cold here. Doing this maintenance (which can be
DIY'd) has prevented problems. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Apply polymer roof coating to protect and insulate the roof. It saves on cooling bills. But the contractor should be held accountable.
aluminum will not rust!!!
Everbrite and ProtectaClear are easy to apply, tough, clear protective coatings that will restore aluminumand will protect from oxidation, corrosion and salt damage.
