How do I treat my raspberries?
My fall raspberries are being eaten by something. Whatever it is puts a hole in the top and sucks the juice out. I have a picture of a worm but only found one so don't think that is it. I have sprayed with Dawn and bug-b-gone, didn't help. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Barb

Earwigs do that to my raspberries. Gnats can also be a problem. So can raspberry beetles, I never do anything with mine, I get plenty of raspberries, I eat them right off the plants, as I am the only one in the family that likes the berries. When I am done gleaning my veggies in the veggie garden, I go to the corner outside the garden that has my raspberry plants and eat away the ripe ones. My treat for tending the garden.

If they are just holes, no bugs or rot, I assume you will be boiling them to make your jam, I would think they would be safe to use them. Boiling should kill anything like bacteria that may be on the berries.
There is an insect called the spotted wing drosophilia. It's similar to fruit flies. You may see a white larvae, like a little worm, coming out of the hole. Learn more here: https://ask.extension.org/questions/415580
Picking the berries more frequently or just before they are ripe can help prevent the flies from laying their eggs on the fruit. It's safe to eat the berries; just make sure you aren't consuming the larvae. Nothing bad will happen except you may be a bit grossed out LOL!
