We want to leave our butternut squash in the garden to harden off bef?

But there is a lot of rain and there are squash bugs crawling out there. Should we bring in the ones that are ripe.?

    Butternut squash are a favorite of garden pests, (deer,field mice, woodchucks, etc. but the riper they are the better they'll keep. If the vines have died you might as well bring them in.

    You can bring them in and let them "age" in your garage or a dark dry closet. It would be better to harden them off outside but a garage works good. I have saved them until December that way.
