An old chest could be a perfect piece for chalk paint. What kind of finish does this chest have? Give a few more details so you can get better suggestions!
I love using chalk paint !!! It goes on so easily and goes a long way , you can sand or scuff edges for a distressed look, best of all you can seal it with a clear of antique wax. This is not waxy, it dries to a hard finish.
I use chalk paint for everything and am never disappointed. I agree that a few more details will help with better suggestions but lately I'm using chalk paint for everything and have gotten great results. You can now find it in spray paint which is so much easier when painting chairs and more involved pieces. I've also finished these pieces with wax and love the way it finishes off a piece. Best of luck!
I am attaching a couple of different chest that were painted in Dixie Belle Paint. Dixie Belle is a chalk mineral paint that is super easy to use. It was made for beginners! There is NO sanding, priming or waxing required. Just make sure you clean well and then paint. Super fun to work with. The pictures that I have attached are painted with Farmhouse Green and then the other is with Drop cloth. - Teri www.dixiebellepaint.com If you ever need help or have any questions you can feel free to call us at 813-909-1962 during business hours.
