Home Back-Up Power Total systems; worth the money?
I have heard about and seen infomercials for a company that sells back-up power systems for homes where the generator is outside next to the house, is powered by something like propane or natural gas, and is hooked up to the power supply. If main power is lost to the home, the systems automatically kicks in and supplies power to the home. Anyone have experience with such a system and do they recommend any specific companies or types of systems? Thank you.

I am unclear as to what to do with this part of my house, "The Breakfast Nook".
We live in "Tornado Alley" and have severe thunderstorms and high winds a lot. There are a few homes in our neighborhood that have the systems, and when the power goes out theirs are the only ones with power. Generac is the only one I would go with if I were putting one in at our house. You pick the size you need, based on what you want to be powered in case of an outage, like some lights, stove, refrigerator, tv, air conditioning/heating. That determines the size and price you need. When the power goes out you barely know it because the generator automatically kicks in. We installed a similar system several years ago in a rural property because we were on a well system and wouldn't even have water if the power went out.Loved it!!
