How to paint a vinyl floor?
I want to try painting my laundry room floor instead of replacing it. It's one large piece with a square pattern so there's no individual tiles. But I'm hoping to use the square pattern to make it look like individual tiles. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Becky

Chalk paint is amazing on laminate flooring.
The first picture shows what i started with - yellowed and ugly! Wash floors thoroughly with tsp. When dry, prime with a high adhesive primer. Look for mistints at the paint store if you want cheap paint. Paint a light colour for the grout and use 1/8" green tape to tape off all the lines once dry. Ignore the diamonds in the pattern and just concentrate on the straight lines. Paint the 'tile' colour next. In the third picture, I made my own stencil. In the second, I just painted the base coat and then worked square by square.
If you sponge on a few colours diluted with a glaze to extend the dry time of the paint, it will give you time to blend it. I find this looks more interesting but you can also paint a solid colour if you prefer. Top coat with Varathane. Your 'tiles' look like they're about 6" x 6"? You can also buy pre-made stencils that look like patterned concrete which is a trendy look now.
