How do you replace kitchen cabinets
The cabinets we have are adequate, but I really would like to take them out and replace them with cabinets that make a statement and allows for wall ovens and a larger refrigerator.

You first need to consider whether you want to keep the same sizes of each cabinet or whether you want to make some changes. An example would be putting a pantry where you now have a lower and upper cabinet. Then you need to consider how much you are willing to spend. Visit some home improvement stores in your area and see what is available and what will fit into your budget. You also need to consider whether you can DIY or if you need professional installation. You might also have to consider your flooring if your new cabinets don't quite fit in the flooring footprint. Some stores that specialize in just selling kitchen cabinets will come into your house and give you some ideas as well as make a computerized print of your kitchen so you will a better idea of how things could look. Have lots of options for your kitchen and consider each one carefully before you make a decision!
You need a designer and a contractor, along with a healthy budget. There is a vast array of options at home improvement centers and kitchen and bath showrooms. If you want "statement" cabinets, you might want custom. Choosing finishes, countertops, hardware, lighting, appliances, flooring - it is a lot of fun but also a lot of work and it can snowball quickly. I agree with everything GK suggested too. Keep your options open, explore all possibilities before making a firm decision. Once you sign on the dotted line, if you have any decisions still left to be made, you need to act quickly as holding up the contractor wastes precious time and money. Start exploring and see what excites you and most of all, enjoy the process.
