Refinished table became darker with the sun?

I refinished a diningroom table several months ago. This week when I took off the runner on it, I find that the table has visably become darker whereever the runner was not on. Seems the sun coming in the window did this discoloration where it was not covered by runner. How do I get it all back to same color?

You will have to first move the table away for the sunlight coming in the window. Then start all over again. Lightly sand and re-stain. You didn't say if you put a finish on it or not. Perhaps a coat of polyurethane might help. Sun can do a lot of damage to tables and floors if you don't have UV glass in your windows.

Probably have to sand and re-stain. Put a top coat of varnish or poly that has UV protection.

What I'd suggest is leaving the table uncovered and allow the sun to darken it all. There is a limit to how dark it will go so presumably ther uncovered part has done that and you just need to allow the section that is lighter ...to catch up.

If you decide to start over sand it lightly and use a stain with pigment then keep it out of the sun.
