How do I make a 3rd bedroom in to a sewing room?
I have a bedroom I want to make into a sewing room with built in storage in the closet that is 6' 8" wide x 2' deep. Thinking I should replace the carpet with something else. Needing ideas how to accomplish this on a budget.

Oh, what a lovely project - plenty of scope. Somebody I know did this very thing and it looked great. She bought a large table with four chairs from a thrift shop, painted them and distressed the sides. (You could use Annie Sloan paint which is made for this). She ripped up the old carpet and replaced it with some great linoleum. Your local carpet store will recommend something perfect and inexpensive.
I haven't personally done this, but have seen some really great stencilled floors and, believe it or not, there are some really fab. videos on line for DIY 'paper bag' floorS which cost practically nothing. You would be totally amazed.
Her cupboard storage problem was solved inexpensively by adding several plastic wire shelving products - store or online. They are used mostly for hanging clothes but can easily be adapted for storage space in cupboards and lightweight to hang.
Wow great ideas above. If there is carpet in the room, I would put in laminate or luxury vinyl. This way scrapes won't be all over easy to keep clean.

I've really have gone to town on this as I love having my Sewing Room.
I use a 6 ft tressel fold up table for cutting out on, you can cover it with old blankets & pretty cotton material on top to Iron on when necessary (fabric tightened up secured underneath).
A Dressing Table (no mirror) that you can sit up at with drawers on either side, sewing machine in the middle, needs to be the right height to sit at, found it better than a special fold up sewing cabinet.
I prefer carpet to timber floor as the carpet doesn't have rub off dust on it if you accidentally drop material on the floor. Timber is better though for the dropped pins & easy sweeping up..etc..
Keep an area for the Ironing board opened up, & always available.
A long angled narrow board on the wall above the machine with long nails lined up in rows for your Cottons & separate area beside on the board for Bobbins, all at hands reach from your sewing machine.
A good adjustable plug in clip on wall light & adjustable Wall Fan facing your sewing machine or facing the Ironing board.
You need good light coming from the windows ,I put the peel on peel off vinyl frost style window film on the window so I don't have to pull the curtain when trying on fittings.
Need a strong very light weight chair you can pull in & out often or one on wheels. And plenty of Electric Wall Sockets.
Lots of large clear plastic stacking boxes(Named) keeping one for mending only ...put in the hanging area of your built in Cupd. OR you can use Filing Cabinets for storing Materials & check the debth of your cupd to see if they fit in, (storing the heaviest things in the bottom drawer as always done in filing cabinets.)
Hope you enjoy & treasure your Sewing Room.
First I would remove everything from the room. Pull up the carpet if that's the way you are going and paint the walls. Replace any curtains, you can use fabric and clips for curtains. Maybe you have hardwood underneath the carpet? Add an area rug. For a sewing room you would need plenty of table space for spreading out your fabric and for a sewing machine. Your closet can be used for fabric storage and accessories! This sounds like fun!
