I plant grass seed in the Fall. The cooler weather and Fall sunshine helps fill in all the holes my dogs made over the summer!
Yes, it is absolutely the best time.
This is prime time for planting
Hi, Linda. Autumn is a good time to plant grass seed, with a few caveats. You need about four weeks for the seed to germinate, grow as grass, set out roots, then go to seed again. You want the grass to go to seed again so that it is self-sustaining. After the tops of the grass have dropped their seeds, or they reach the code-allowed height, then cut the new grass with the blade set on high. You may have to trim the area more often, but you want the grass to get strong, from roots to tips. Water deeply, but not often. Mulch on top of the new grass with straw before the first freeze or first snowfall, and uncover it early in the spring if the freezes are over. Enjoy your new lawn, Linda! ☺️
