How do I remove grease splatters from the walls around and on the stove without scratching the paint? I am a renter so painting may not be an option.

soapy Dawn dish detergent might help wash it away. It's suppose to be goo with grease. Just mixed a few drops with warm water, dig your wash cloth and then hand wash the wall clean. You may have to repeat the process a couple times depending on how much is there.
Rosalie...Any degreaser should work but I also use a utility razor very carefully where one can be used.
Dawn dish soap, vinegar and water. Easy. Wash the walls monthly for best results.
Because you rent, a worthwhile investment would be a "splatter screen" when deep frying or cooking with oil.
I vote for both Naomie and Oliva's suggestions, and I always add a sprinkle of water softener to my cleaning concoction - it softens the thicker crusties and makes the scrubbing easier. Keep some in a spray bottle to use when you notice the need. I would like to ban wok frying, but my husband thinks he's Martin Yan.... Every now and then, I break out my steaming wand for a thorough clean. When you're ready, you should boil a pot of water with some white vinegar and get your grease spatters "steamed" and softened for easier removal. It's a good thing!
Have you tried using a magic eraser? I have a lot of luck on painted walls with them. They remove all kinds of scuffs and dirt.
If the above suggestions don't work, try purple power. It's a degreaser that you can find at automotive stores. Test it first but it works really well.
Green Miracle cleaner is my preferred degreaser, it's not as harsh as purple power. However you have to order it and I don't think you can get less than 1/2 gallon. My husband works on a lot of vehicles & tractors so we go through it.
