what size are you considering? if you're going to pour concrete, and it's a large area, reinforcing wire and rebar will assure a long life for it.
Maybe something on Pinterest will inspire you. some of them use rebar, but, scan through and look for inspiration from those that have other creative ideas.

It kind of depends on your dog and how strong they are.... but you can use fencing or chicken wire if the dog isn't very strong. You would build the frame and tack the fencing to the inside of the frame to keep a clean look.
Chain link fencing would work well. Tougher then chicken wire but still no rebar. Comes in 4, 6, 8 and 10 foot heights. You could buy in bulk from any store that specializes in fences. They would also have the poles and adapters you would need to assemble it also.
