Winter window preparation
I have 8 very large windows in 2 rooms. What is the best system or way to prepare for winter in our 100+ year old home?

You can add storm windows but the price has gotten so high on those you can replace them with more efficient windows for slightly higher, if you DIY.
If the view isn't a problem, you can put 6 mil plastic (or thicker) over the windows but it will make it seem blurry when you look out the windows.
You can wet the window and put bubble wrap on the windows.
Check to make sure you don't need to add sealant, caulk, or weather stripping.
Add thermal drapes.
Add window film to prevent losing heat.
If the windows are wood, make sure they have a good covering of sealer or paint and caulk all frame areas. Apply paraffin or bees wax so they slide without sticking.
Check for interior air leaks and caulk if necessary.
The thicker and wider your draperies (2.5 to 3x the width of the window, and at least 4 " above and 4" or more on each side) the better insulation they provide, as do floor length curtains which can help block drafts at floor level.
Hi Debi,
If all else fails, use Polystyrene board/sheets sold at DIY or Cardboard will help. Old Blankets hung behind your curtains will insulate too! Keep warm
