As noted above, you need to ensure your hearth, and behind, are adequately fire and heat secure.
You can use the same concrete board/tile behind the stove. Glue and screw the board into your studs then add tile or some decorative metal “sheathing”. Your choice pretty much depends on your decor; stainless tiles, wood-look porcelain tiles, or funky corrugated metal.
Have fun with this. Decide if you want it to be a feature, or high-heat paint to blend with your walls. Options are unlimited, really.
Before you do anything, look up the UBC - Universal Building Code. It gives you the specs for building to code. This is necessary if you ever decide to sell your property.
