Hello Sandi, Just need to add Socks and warm clothing etc. Not sure about cash savings, but you will be doing your bit to save the planet!
Absolutely. We actually got a Nest Thermostat and it give us a performance summary at the end of the month. We found that by lowering our thermostat in the cooler months and raising it in the warmer months has saved us money. The less your system has to run the better. I also recommend opening your doors to other rooms to help with air circulation and using ceiling fans (reversing them as the weather changes).
Sandi...Might be a little but not a lot I don't believe. Just leave it and don't continue to change it.
It depends on how well your house is insulated. If it has good insulation you should be good with 70 degrees. If it isn’t I think 68 degrees would be better because at 70 degrees the furnace would come on too often using a lot of electricity.
Set your thermostat at 66 or 68 while you are sleeping or not at home. While you are at home you can raise it to 70 if you uncomfortable at 68. Evidently if you do this you save about 10% a year in your heating costs.
In summer for air conditioning set your thermostat the same way--74/76 while not home and lower when you are--save energy while you are not home.
Sandi: How to stay warm in winter:
Each one-degree drop can reduce your energy bill by 1-3 percent. Tip: To save even more money, drop your thermostat by five to ten degrees while you sleep. Not only will you get a better night's sleep, you'll lower your energy bill by 10-15 percent!
