How do I kill Japanese knotweed??
I have a very smart weed in my backyard (rhyzome root system). Have tried to kill it for 2 years...unsuccessfully any suggestions?

It takes patience, vigilance and time. :( Here's an article with several methods to try. The problem is that they rhizomes spread and you have to get every little bit of the roots. You can try containing it by putting sheet metal strips in the ground surrounding it that are at least 2 feet deep. That should help contain it so that you can work on the area. the best non toxic method is solarizing, which unfortunately needs to be done in warm weather. Please try not to use toxic treatments that can hurt the bees, worms, birds and potentially pets.
