How can I remove cabinet over island without ruining ceiling ?
Our home was built in 1971. We have older sturdy wood shelving inside cabinets and the cabinet doors were replaced to update kitchen at some point. I would like to remove the one cabinet over our island to open up look from kitchen to family room. Is that something that can be done ourselves ?? Or another thought, to remove cabinet doors and back of cabinet and have open cabinet?? Just wondering if anyone has done it and is it a monstrous undertaking best not for us to do.

It depends on your skills. Carol, but it can be done. The cabinet can be removed, they're usually screwed into a stud in the ceiling. Once it's gone, you'll have to repair the sheetrock on the ceiling and repaint. Removing the doors and the back would probably be easier. You may want to try that first and see if you like it. Good luck!
