You shouldent have to they will come back but if you want dig up pot in a pot.
I grow strawberries in hanging pots to keep them away from critters. I put mine in a semi sheltered spot like under a porch or a shrub and they come back every year. I usually end up replacing a couple a year, but those are ones that are older. After a few years they don't really produce well and I put babies in the pots to replace them the year before, sometimes those young ones don't make it through the winter.
