Hi Jean, you might try to locate the old style paste shoe polish in a color as close to the color of your leather. Work it in well with the applicator or a small soft cotton cloth and then buff away. That should help the scratches be less apparent.
Before you do any of the ideas above, use a VERY fine sandpaper or emery board to smooth out the surface. Tweezers and a razor blade works too. Use the tweeezers to lift the tiny pieces and remove with the razor.
