How do I make a tablescape for Thanksgiving?

Cake stands, candle stands, boxes draped in fabric napkins or coordinating scrap fabric, flower pots turned upside down, any thing you have that adds height. If using random items, place your tablecloth on first, then add your boxes and pots. Cover with fabric and tuck in edges. You won't notice them once the display is complete. Then continue to add your decorative items. I always do a dry run through at least a week before so I know how I will set it up on the event day so I won't be wasting time unnecessarily. If this display will include, like a buffet, pull out your serving dishes and add a post it note to each one with their anticipated contents. Make sure you have enough serving pieces too.

Urns and footed cake plates are your friends here - anything footed really. Then arrange them at varying heights and use them for flowers, candles, or even appetizers or cookies. What I've done in the past for cheap and easy footed items is to securely glue old china plates to silver or brass candlesticks (visit a thrift store to find these). Just make sure the plate isn't too top heavy for the candlestick, and that the candlestick isn't too tall. You could tuck other decorative items around the feet, like sprigs or berries or colorful leaves. Play with different looks until you get something you like. I sometimes like to do an eclectic mix instead of having everything match. And sometimes it's more elegant to keep it simple.

I use a raised cake platter. I decorate it with different ribbons, etc. it gives me the dimension I was looking for. Good luck!!

I use wood slices as risers. I have a few different heights and it creates a warm rustic feel.

Use a few of your baking pans, flip them so the bottom of the pan is now the top, you can stack them for a bit of hight.juice glasses under themfor more lift. Cover with fabric of choice. Look up knapkin folding, there are some cool looking folding techniques.

Hi Wduke2. I'm Cindy. You will need a few tablecloths or any fabric you may have on hand. Put large items on your table and tape them down. (I have used gallons of paint in the past. Nice and heavy and very unlikely to tip over.) Whatever you use to create height, be sure to tape it down securely. Cover the different levels with fabric. Then when it's time to eat, put platters on the different heights and fill them with food. The different levels create drama and make a beautiful buffet. Hope this helps. Good luck from Cindy.

If you don't have different tiered dishes, cover some sturdy cardboard boxes with pretty fall themed scrapbook paper and use those to elevate your items. OR You can use a fabric table runner to cover different boxes to different heights.
