Your question was cut off. Please complete and repost.
I don’t know how many people you’d be sorting them out for but you can get a container for each person. A shoebox would work well if the pictures will fit into one. Do your sorting in several sessions so as to limit the monotony. Have a seat on the floor if you are able (I am not) and turn on a good movie.
Take some time and sit down and sort them. Either by person or approximate year. Then when you see them, you can let them flip through and have them take what they want.
I am in the same spot. I purchased some pretty cardboard photo boxes at Michael's (they have them at Ross, Staples, etc.) You can assign sorting labels for the boxes, like "Vacations" "Holidays, etc. then another sort to divide into boxes or albums for giving. You could also stage a family photo sorting/scrapbooking party, and relive some of those moments as you work together to create albums. Unless you WANT to do al the work yourself....
If they are old family photos, I would send them to a place that digitizes your photos and puts them on a CD so you will preserve them digitally forever. Most of these services include cleaning up the photos in and restoring the original colors. They will return your originals and you will now have digitized copies that you could give to other relatives.
Know that you have them on the computer, sorting them and organizing them becomes so much easier.
