Depending on the space available, why not build a free standing, open shelved cabinet if you need more storage?

Hi D! Depending on what you want to store, you could use command hooks or shelves.
I'm not a carpenter, but could you add add shelves or cabinets about half the height of the china cabinet on each side to make it look like a built-in china cabinet with buffet extensions on each side? Perhaps use molding to cover where they join. Just a non-carpenter thought.
