How do I install faux shiplap in my bathroom?
Help! I want to do a faux shiplap in a small bathroom. I can not find any of the suggested lumber. I’m in small town Nebraska. Only store around in Menards that would sell the variety type. Any help on this???
Hi Elizabeth 1x6s would work fine to get the ship lap look. No, it won't actually "overlap" but if you put them side by side and also painted them white it will definitely give you the look you're going for.
Here is an easy way to get the shiplap look without all the trouble! It looks amazing too: https://thehoneycombhome.com/shiplap-accent-wall-the-easy-way/
Unfortunately the walls from the previous tile are damaged. This is why we decided to do the shiplap
Menards does stock ship lap that overlaps. Dakota is the brand name. You can also order it from Home Depot and have it shipped to your house. Arauco is the brand from Home Depot. I have used the Arauco--easy to install and looks nice.
I was all set to purchase this ship lap and blow my budget until the salesman told me it can not go in a bathroom or is not recommended in a bathroom 😣
Depending on your budget, you can use tongue and groove or get wood panels cut into strips. The wood panel option is much cheaper. You want flooring underlayment which cost about $15 for a 4 x 8 sheet. Ask them to cut it into long strips in the store. Every store has their minimum of how thin they will cut them. Try for 8", but 12" looks good too - a little more modern.

Go to craigslist and look for free pallets little more work but FREE!
Buy a privacy fence panel and tear it apart for about $30

Try Amazon or use wallpaper that looks just like shiplap, it’s even raised to look like real wood.
Elizabeth--I used the Arauco (Home Depot) ship lap on the ceiling in my bathroom and one wall behind the toilet. It has been fine. The ship lap is installed over my tub/shower unit. because it was only primed I did put 2 coats of paint on it. I have had no issues with moisture and we shower every day. It has only been up for 8 months. I also have it on one wall in my kitchen. No issues there either.
