Both of these methods work: Pour a few drops of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad or make a paste of three parts baking soda to one part water (tap or distilled). Rub over the cool surface of an unplugged iron, then wipe clean with a water-dampened cloth.
heat the barrel until hot then soak a wash cloth in hot water. Ring the cloth out until medium wet. UNPLUG ! THE CURLING IRON ! Open the hot iron, then wrap the cloth around the barrel. Close the barrel, let it sit 2-3 minutes to melt the residue
then pull the cloth out. Repeat until clean. Make sure the iron is unplugged before
you wrap the barrel with the cloth ! Don't want to get shocked ! Let the iron dry out completely before using. Works for me every time.
Lemon essential oil or any citric acid based cleaner works well.
I use citric acid based cleaner and damp rag or alcohol and dry rag. Rinse with damp rag when clean.
I use baking soda to clean spray starch off the bottom of my clothing iron, so I would try using a paste of baking soda and water and scrub lightly using a damp cloth.
