You could try sprinkling baking soda in with the litter. Do you also scrub and disinfect the box regularly? After some time, the plastic boxes absorb odors and need replacing too. Arm & Hammer makes a litter box powder that is sold where the cat stuff is. It works pretty good too.
I would empty the litterbox and clean it really well. In the future, add baking soda to help absorb moisture and be sure to scoop it daily, every other day at least.
Wash and dry the litter box and use petrulli oil with water in a spray bottle and that's it good luck
I put baking soda in the empty bottom of the litter box enough to cover and them pour on some vinegar. let sit a few moments, then rinse with hot water. you may want to experiment with different litter brands that will allow you a better scent after you scoop. I use Fresh Step with Febreze.
Make sure that no urine was inadvertently sprayed outside of the litter box onto a floor, wall, or down the side of the litter box that needs to be cleaned as well. Accidents like that happen at times, so scrub with water and baking soda or a clorox wipe first and then soap and water after. Be careful with your choice of litter and the type that have 'scents' as they are not often healthy for your cats. I also have ZEO rocks in the room where the litter box is housed which is a natural method of freshening the air. I have 5 indoor cats, clean the litter twice each day and clean the area around the litter box every couple months unless there are small messes sooner. I have a very honest friend who tells me often that my house doesn't smell like I have 5 cats!
I have found that cheap Pine Glo from Walmart OR Dollar Tree works to remove lots of odors and can even be used in the laundry.
I thought I asked around the litter box
Hi Pauline. I'm Cindy. When it comes to cat litter, you get what you pay for. Especially if you have more than one cat. I have tried 4 or 5 different litters, and disappointed every single time. We use Fresh Step now and happy with this product.
