If you still want to be able to see through it, that clear plastic stuff you can buy in kits is probably your best bet.

Yes, I agree the window film works great.
If you have blinds and want to open them, take off the wand, once the plastic is in place and done being shrunk, cut a small hole and reattarch the wand on the outside of your plastic. I learned the hard way and had a dark room all season becuse I didn’t want to ruin the work.
You can always take around the new hole if it rips too much.
Clear plastic kits are great for insulating, are easy to install and you can see out. We use bubble wrap but leave a 6 inch or 4 inch long vertical or horizontal free place to see out if we need to. The clear ones are the best to have a view though.
I have used this idea and it really helped with insulation and was reusable for many years before i replaced my single pane windows. I bought clear 1/4 inch plexiglass and mounted it with butterfly screws. Easy on and off each season and you can clearly see through them. Works well, is easy to install one person only. No need to buy each year. Will last forever!
