Not sure what you mean "a lot of access room". Are you saying your door is wide? Could you give us more information about your closet? Or a picture? Is it deep like a walk-in?
Any small closet is not nearly as Small to the Newlywed than in it is in time to the Couple married 15 to 25 years:
i. Especially, with Additional Purses and Hats and Belts and Ties, Christmas Shoes, Sweaters or Easter Suits, etc and everything but the kitchen blender...
Purses like Hats and Belts and Ties belong on a Pull out with Posts or Rods, not stacked on a shelf.
Christmas Shoes, Sweaters or Easter Suits, etc need to Go Beneath a Bed.
ii. As your needs and belongings expand, you need to also expand access to shelves, at some level or degree toward
A. a Master Closet.
B. an equivalency to a Master Closet by being Clever.
Rarely is that Level at Eye-Level.
iii. Unfortunately seldom is this Shelving Expanse occuring at Eye Level in any Prebuilt home built before 1960 without rethinking the closet as: Built by a Drunk Architect who Was Thinking Sideways at the time.
Be those New Shelves as
A. Overhead shelves in homes with high ceilings, placing those shelves above rollout Laundry Carts
Or
B. Built-in Shelves in 1 to 4 Roll out Armoires with Wheels
Or
C. By Wisely integrating a Curved Shower Curtain Rod into a Build it Yourself Pullout Laundry Cart Styled Mechanism
D. A Sort of In Wall Cabinetry System
First things first
So, First thing you need to do is rid yourself of All of the Neverwears, Donate those to a Charity like: Goodwill.
After that Secure that Occasional Wears and Sentimental Photos and Attires like Wedding Gowns and Bridesmaid Gowns, and Old Suits, etc, etc: place into a Cedar Chest, Folded Nicely and Organized because: Somebody might want them.
Keep in mind: A Cedar Chest can go to places your closet cannot such as in an Attic or Crawlspace or Basement or even be a Decor in a Home Office of Vehicle Trunk.
You sometimes need to Rotate...
The Result is: where you ordinarily have your Hangup clothes on a Rod going Widthwise in the Small Closet, usually is best rotated or placed in a Piece of Furniture that can Rotate.
You may need to...
If it is already in that Rotated Posotion, Your Storage Needs exceed the Preexisting Design and Capacity and you need to do a Quick Run Through of the Home Storages to see how you can Consolidate or Free up room and:
I. Consider other storage options, such as: Under the Bed Storage, Baseboard Cabinets aside Windows, or Roll Away Chests and Storages that you may have foom for if you rearrange the Bedrooms.
II. Investigate Room Sizes, as you may need to Slightly Renovate to Shrink a Room or Subdivide any unuses Child's Bedroom into 2 or 3 Closets with One or Two Partitions and Doors and Frames.
III. Consider Cabinetries in places you never thought that Cabinetry Can Be, like: Above Toilet, Above Headboard, or by rearranging your items to an Extent that you may be able by Arranging those by Size, make room for Extra Shelves above several preexisting shelves.
IV. Look for 'Air Space' that should instead have a Shelf to become instead: Shelf Space.
V. Consider 'Roll Out Component Drawers' as like a Chest with Drawers Option which are
a. Effectively Dividing the Closet into 5 to 9 Tiers by the Chest with Drawers even Having Drawers places Sideways to expand Storage in the Closet to the Entire Depth.
b. via a. Creating space in an adjacent room where a Chest with Drawers initially was, as that could have instead been the Master Closet had that Chest Removed to Place a 2nd Partition to create that Master Closet 16 to 22 inches Deeper, you Place a Master Closet in the Adjacent Room.
And The Optimal Result is...
Anything that Seemed Shorter or Sideways Has Rotated.
