How can I make a 5' barn door?
I have had an open bathroom to accommodate wheelchair use and I want to install a barn door between bedroom and bathroom. The 5 foot opening goes up to the ceiling leaving no header to attach hardware.

I would make an exposed roof truss of doubled up 2x4 and 2x6. Make the bottom chord 2x6 and attach the sliding rail it to the bottom chord..this is an advanced diy or hire a professional.
The videos and FIY sites that I see all fit a beam across the opening of the doorway to attach hardware and track for barn door. Check it out. I don’t think it would look unsightly to do this with your project.
You could go with a beefier rail that free-spans the 5 foot opening. Keep in mind that your doors will be ceiling height (possibly custom) and all the cool hardware will be mounted to the back side of the door (rather than the top) and won't be visible.
