I don't see why not... just make sure that the hardware attachment goes thru the "structural" part of the door and not into the hollow part.

Sure, are you wanting to dress it up to look like a barn door? If so home-improvement stores have some wonderful lightweight boards that can be cut and then just glued and painted, be sure you clock them first then mounted on barn door hardware.

Well you sure wouldn't get the barn door effect with a hollow core door, and then because the hardware raises the door above the opening, the door is gonna be too short unless you can find a 96" high one.
