How to Get Rid of Toadstools in the Yard. Dig up any tree roots that have toadstools growing from them. Remove any thatch from your lawn. Walk back and forth over the thatch areas with an aerator to bring soil cores to the surface. Dig up the toadstools. Run the aerator back and forth inside the "Fairy Ring."
They usually clear up on their own once damp soil dries up completely. They multiply in warm, damp weather.
